Over 60 years of History
Founded in February 1959, Bureau Colombo has been acting for over 60 years as Classification Society. In 1984, a new administration took over the share control of the company. In 2012, with the death of his majority partner, BC has restructured to focus increasingly on work of excellence.
BCis a genuinely Brazilian Classification Society, supervised by the Directorate of Ports and Coasts/MM and the CREA. We are formed by a highly qualified technical team, who is motivated to perform their service.
Through DPC Adm. Dec. no. 027 of 15.05.1997 and amendments, Bureau Colombo is authorized by the Brazilian Government's Maritime Authority to act as a Recognized Classification Society for Inland and Open Sea Navigation.
Quality
BC is a Classification Society with an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system certificate.
Mission
Bureau Colombo is to contribute with the increase of the navigation safety, safeguard of human life at sea, avoid pollution in Brazilian waters, according to the LESTA (Waterway Traffic Safety Law) No. 9537/97, regulated since May 1998 by Decree No. 2596/98, and guarantee shipping companies and shipowners the advantages offered by the classification of their vessels.

Rules and Standards
Classification is a process designed to verify the operation and reliability of the ship's machinery and electrical systems, including propulsion and navigation, as well as structural strength and hull stability. This process is based on the Classifier's Rule Book, prepared and updated by the Classifier itself.
BC Rule Book is a consolidation of engineering standards in general, based on research, development and innovation.
